I don't believe those of us of
Southeast Asia region mind being called
Asian. However, many of us in this region refers to ourselves
ethnically rather than by country of
citizenship. Hence, many
Malaysian refer to themselves as
Malay,
Chinese,
Indian,
Kadazan, etc rather than
Malaysian or
Asian. I understand that happens in
Indonesia too, though perhaps at a lesser degree.
That may answer Dman's prodding, that I only just saw.
