Located in downtown Baltimore, Mount Clare Station is the oldest passenger and freight railroad station in North America. It was built in 1829 by the venerable Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, well before the steam engine caught on for locomotives--at the time, trains were drawn by teams of horses. It was from here, in 1844, that the first Morse Code message ever was received.
Some of the buildings--notably the roundhouse--still stand today, and make up part of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum.
