Gods, the game

A famous platform adventure game, by the famous Bitmap Brothers, released on 1991.

Gods takes place in ancient Greece. You are a warrior on a mission to liberate your home town from the evil Demons. In order to do that, you have at your disposal many cool powerups and weapons.

Gods features many adventure-style twists, puzzles and objects inventory. It also includes a somewhat pioneer, primitive AI system. Your enemies may 'choose' their preferred way to annihilate you, and the game also monitors your performances and tries to match them.

Gods was initially designed for the Amiga platform, but later on a PC version was also produced. The PC version was a conversion of the Amiga one. Amiga-to-PC conversions were mostly unsuccessful in matching the original, mainly in terms of sound and graphics. But Gods is an exception. The sound title by Nation XII sounds quite decent, and the graphics, although inferior to the amazing scrolling of the Amiga version, are quite outstanding for the PC standards of their time.

Gods also supports the following platforms: SNES, Atari ST, Archimedes, and the Sega Mega Drive.

Gods was designed by Steve fall and Eric Matthews (who also did Speedball 2 and Z for the Bitmap Brothers)
It was published by Renegade Software.
