Just want to
clarify a few things about
WWWWolf's writeup.
- I don't know what version you have WWWWolf, but you can acquire a missile lock at a distance. True, you do need visual contact, but that visual contact could be 500mm or it could be 500m. You do need to rest your crosshair on the target for a time, and it varies depending on the missile type, i.e. the larger the missile the longer required for a lock. It is also, obviously, somewhat harder to get a lock at a distance because they can easily maneuveur out of your crosshairs, but it can be done and it has been done. Plus, if you were half decent at the game (not to say that you aren't WWWWolf), missile locks at close range would be a cinch.
- Zoom too large? Pfff... hell no. It is difficult to use at a close range, but its not intended for close combat. Its meant for long range and it does its job ever so well.
- Humans can't be trampled, yes, that's because they play no role in this game. Previous Mechwarriors saw Humans valiantly launching rockets at maurauding Mechs and as such, killing them was a neccessity to avoiding damage. In this Mechwarrior, however, the Humans are just scenery, as such there's no point to adding in the ability to trample them. You don't notice them in the heat of battle, and adding that scripting would probably detract from other areas of the game.
- Battle Mech outfitting is realisitic. Yeah, some people might hate the fact that you can't put lasers on a missile rack. True, you should be able to on a Clan OmniMech, but not on an Inner Sphere Mech. Its a brilliant addition, regardless, that delves you deeper into the Mechwarrior realm, making it feel as if you are working with a real Mech.
- Ok, some of the music tracks aren't the best, but they do have a few of the original tracks from Mech 2 recreated, and they sound brilliant!
- I concede, I miss the Clans, and it is rather difficult to rival the epic Clan universe, but the Clans are gone and there is little we can do about, the Inner Sphere rivalry is a decent supplement and the storyline in MechWarrior 4 isn't the worst.
Ok, that's it. Mechwarrior 4 is a great game, if your a
Mechwarrior fan, or even if you're not, its well worth buying it. Don't be turned off by the fact its been passed on to
Microsoft either, they did a top job.
