After
River Phoenix overdosed on GHB (and a few
other drugs, as I recall), a couple of
stoner chemist upperclassmen in my
dorm were curious, as they'd
never heard of it. So they got out an
Organic Chemistry textbook and looked up the real name. From the name, they were able to deduce the drug's
structure, and even a
method of
synthesizing it.
They showed their method to one of their professors. The prof's response was: "Don't do this." Then he took out his red pen and wrote down some corrections to their process. They didn't, as they already had access to other drugs they felt more confidant taking.
