The town of Big Sur is a Small town in Northern California, 35 miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea on Highway One.

There is also a beach by the same name which became the home of Henry Miller from 1944-62. Also home of the Esalen Institute. Now home of the Big Sur JazzFest. Richard Brautigan also lived there and described it in A Confederate General From Big Sur. Jack Kerouac also lived here briefly in Lawrence Ferlinghetti's bungalo and wrote Big Sur
