Working class
protest song by
Creedence Clearwater Revival, which appeared on their
1969 album
Willie And The Poor Boys, to describe how politically entrenched or wealthy youth can evade their civic duties - like avoiding the
Vietnam draft while calling others to fight their war. The song was later covered by
U2, and the
CCR version reappeared in both the soundtrack of
Forrest Gump and the game
Battlefield Vietnam.
'Fortunate Son' is also the name of a cynical biography of George W. Bush by authors Mark Crispin Miller and J.H. Hatfield.
