a licorice flavored tootsie product invented in the 1890's by Ernest Von Au and Joseph Maison. they are like tootsie's dots, but black. the original name for the candy was black rose, but it was heard as black crows by the printer and printed incorrectly on the first boxes. they are now called crows and remain a tasty treat.
