There are quite a few types of curves(i prefer the feminine kind), but in this case, I believe we are looking at the learning curve. By being ahead of the curve, one is learning at a faster than normal rate and excelling at their endeavour. I think I was ahead of the curve once, back in 1986.

Maybe the the curve in question is the infamous bell curve. Feel free to insert your curve here.
