The
Popularity Conundrum is a singular
phenomenon in which the people who run with the "Popular Crowd", especially in
high school, are
loathed and
gossiped about by everyone else. The
logical
question is this: why are they called "
popular" if everyone hates them? Should they not be called the "Disfavored Crowd" or the "Anathematized Crowd" instead?
Perhaps being "different" has become so
fashionable that the word "
popular" has taken on a negative
connotation. Therefore, the ultimate
insult (at least to a fashionably different high school kid) is, "You're popular." Or maybe we're all just
jealous of them...well, I'm not jealous.
