'Poggers', along with PogChamp and pog, is weird internet slang for epic, spectacular, or most excellent.
POG stands for 'Play of the Game', and comes from a screen cap of Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez on the YouTube channel Cross Counter TV in 2010. The resulting image, known as the PogChamp emote, was used as a popular emote on the Twitch platform to indicate happy surprise or excitement. The emote shows Gootecks making an extreme oohhh! expression, with raised eyebrows, wide eyes, and rounded mouth with a big smile.
PogChamp was removed from Twitch after Gootecks Tweeted in support of further violence during the 2021 United States Capitol attack, and alternative images were trialed; Twitch settled on Komodo Hype as their replacement. The terms, especially pog and poggers, remain as a cryptic superlative for internet weirdos.
It should be noted that, despite the contentious history of PogChamp, these terms have not taken on a trollish overtone; poggers is still a positive, and apolitical, adjective.
