Jonah Matranga is perhaps one of the most influential, yet underappreciated, forces in the evolution of
post-punk/
emo music. Jonah Matranga's first notable contribution to the scene came in the form of a band known as
Far.
They released 3 full length
albums, listed below:
Album:
Quick
Release Date: June 2, 1995
Album:
Tin Cans With Strings To You
Release Date: April 23, 1996
Album:
Water and Solutions
Release Date: March 10, 1998
My personal favorite is
Water and Solutions, in which the
vocals and general sound seem to be far more refined than its predecessors. After Far broke up, Jonah moved on to a solo career, which was called, simply enough,
onelinedrawing.
The music was rejected by many fans of Far for sounding too "emo" or
wimpy. Many songs were
acoustic, and they seemed to have a far more
introspective tone. Under the
moniker of onelinedrawing, Jonah Matranga has released a slew of
EP's, with more most likely
in the works.
Also worth mentioning is Jonah's role as
frontman in a shortlived band called New End Original, who released one album, called
Thriller. New End's sound could be best described as the "
happy middle" between the often
aggressive style of Far and the generally more
downbeat style of onelinedrawing.
