I’ve grown sunflowers for I dunno, ten or twelve years. During that time I’ve tried my best to welcome the butterflies and bees and to ward off the squirrels and the birds that are intent on toppling them and plundering them for their seeds.
I awoke this morning to find them laying on their side, victims of either a strong storm or the local wildlife. and try as I might, I couldn’t set them straight So now they’re left for dead but I can’t seem to get their aroma off my hands
And I realize now that I was wrong all along, they belong to whatever needs them to survive and for the first time I notice that my hands still smell just fine and I’m left to wonder what I’ve been missing all this time.
