Andy Serkis is an
actor. He was born on
April 20,
1964. He has two
children. Although he has played many roles, the role that he is most famous for is playing
Gollum in the second and third parts of
The Lord of the Rings.
As well as providing facial expressions and voice, he also provided motion capture data -- everything except the physical appearance. Because of this, he was effectively ruled out of the 2003 Academy Awards, for the role of Best Supporting Actor in The Two Towers.
His performance did, however, earn him Best Virtual Performance at the MTV Movie Awards, where he gave a notable acceptance speech.
