NZers are fiercly proud of our celebrities and institutions, especially when they manage to achieve outside of our shores, even in a minor way.

The phrase, as far as anyone can make out, comes from the series of advertisements for L & P. It's vaguely self-mocking but cheerful about it, cos it acknowledges the phenomenon of fierce pride noted by Foaf, while also admitting how small New Zealand is.
