A
musical instrument manufacturing company from the
USA.
Sequential Circuits started out in
1978 as a self-funded
business operating in
Dave Smith's garage in
San Jose,
California. The other
initial members were former
Moog employee
John Bowen and businesswoman
Barb Fairhurst.
The following
winter the team introduced their
Prophet-5 model, which became hugely
popular and made SC a major name in the synthesizer business.
Eventually Sequential Circuits
(shortening its name to Sequential) became
the largest American synth manufacturer. But after a long
streak of bad luck, the company was sold to
Yamaha in
1987 for just over
half a million dollars. After a while Yamaha decided to
boot the Sequential design team, which was then
recruited by
Korg (which was owned by Yamaha) and went on to produce the
Wavestation.
