Built for flood control, it is used for a wide variety of recreational purposes including boat races, summer swimming, and other things. The reservoir is located in the city of San Dimas in Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park which happens to be located right next to Raging Waters...wonder where they get their water from, eh?
