Phil Hartman

Just like so many of his Saturday Night Live colleagues, Phil Edward Hartman was born a Canadian. September 24, 1948, in Brantford, Ontario a comedic genius stepped onto the Earth for the first time. He was born in a large family, the fourth child out of eight. Although born in Canada, he spent a lot of his childhood years in Connecticut and Southern California

Hartman's initial career choice wasn't too funny. He went to Cal State University, in order to become a graphic designer. Hartman would actually design album covers for some large bands, like Crosby, Sills and Nash. Spontaneously, Hartman joined an improv group The Groundlings, which included Jon Lovitz and Paul Reubens, who he would work with in the future. Hartman next played Captain Carl on Reuben's Pee Wee's Playhouse and helped write the movie.

In 1986, Hartman made a career move that would change his life: he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. His many memorable roles, such as President Bill Clinton and Frank Sinatra made him famous. After a long and successful run on Saturday Night Live, he found it be too stressful, and decided to leave.

Hartman would next have memorable roles in The Simpsons, and small roles in movies such as Jingle All the Way, but his most important career move would be his role in the NBC sitcom NewsRadio. Hartman played a radio anchor Bill McNeal, and would continue this until one night on May 27th, 1998.

Brynn Hartman, Phil's 3rd wife, and mother of his two children shot Phil three times. After the police came, responding to the gunshots, Brynn shot herself while they were taking the children from the house.

Phil Hartman's many fans will always miss him.

Trivia:

Quotes:

"I started doing Clinton and then I was on the cover of TV Guide. I became ... a household name... I didn't have to look for work any more. Work came to me"

"I recently made a list of all the characters and voices I've done. It came to 99," Hartman said to an interviewer in 1992.

On Politically Incorrect:

"I agree. It's an extraordinary tool if it's used properly. You know. I mean, originally, the Internet was formed so that scientists could share research from around the world, correct? And then what we've seen and witnessed is the commercialization of the Internet, but what you do with it depends on the individual.

You put a computer in front of one person, they create the Space Shuttle. You put it in front of another person they play Doom for five years."
