In
Finland, on every
Thursday, almost 99% of all cafeterias in factories, offices, army garrisons,
etc. serve
pea soup and
pancakes as one
meal of the day.
It's been like this for many years, and probably will be for
eternity.
I myself have nothing against this custom, but I've been
fascinated for some time by the way pea soup
controls Finnish life. People expect it; "Yes, it's Thursday - pea soup day". Would the
entire country come to a
halt if they didn't get their pea soup every Thursday?
Update: zakalwe told me that a
similar course of
behaviour is visible in
Sweden. I guess we're
closer to each other as than we want to admit! :-)
