A lake near Syracuse, New York once so fouled by industrial pollution that it was the filthiest lake in the U.S. However, this fact allowed the local government to purchase a large amount of the land surrounding the lake, and develop it into a very nice park and jogging trail. No one swims in this lake, but local Syracuse University crew teams practice here.
