Dr. Michael Gerhardt was born in 1948. After his admission to the practise of
law in 1975, he defended his
dissertation on
democratic structures in
trade unions. In 1977, he spent a year working for the
government of Upper
Bavaria (
Oberbayern). This was followed by a year as a
research assistant at the
Bundesverwaltungsgericht, the Federal
Administrative Court.
He spent the next five years in
public administration, first in the Bavarian
Ministry of the Interior, then in the
municipal administration of
Freising. He then spent two years as a research assistant at the
Federal Constitutional Court.
From 1996-2003, Gerhardt served as a
judge on the Federal Administrative Court. He has been a judge of Second
Senat of the
Bundesverfassungsgericht since July 2003.
