The State of Mewar was founded in 568 AD by Guhil. His descendants have ruled the area ever since.

The House of Mewar was founded upon principles of trusteeship, which are the backbone of its structure and strength. The eighth century brought the founding father of the House of Mewar, Bappa Rawal. He was appointed into service by the guru, Harit Rishi, who also laid down the rules for the government of the state. Rishi's ideas were based upon the respect for mankind, community service and the strict observance and care of ancient Vedic culture.
