Computers of this kind became available when
Apple started to
license its
platform to other
hardware manufacturers in 1994, the most popular clone-makers being
Power Computing and
Umax.
Now an
endangered species, due to
Apple quitting the
clone business and buying licenses back from
licensees after
Steve Jobs came back in 1997 and invented the
TupperMac.
