Professor of German at the University of Minnesota. He's best well known for his scholarship on and translations of fairy (however you spell them) tales. Worth a particular note is his work on the idea that fairy tales form the first acute experience of subversion for youngins and his subsequent embracing of fairy tales as subversive in and of themselves both on an individual level and in the context of society.
