It's the Internet, I can do what I want

The idea that the Internet is an anarchy, and the conclusion that there are no restrictions on personal behavior. Generally, this is not too far off from the truth, but there are many social conventions that determine appropriate behavior. (The collection of this conventional wisdom is known as netiquette, and is more and more irrelevant as Joe Sixpack logs on to AOL.)

This statement is usually a piss-poor justification for antisocial behavior.
