1956. Climbed together with
Reinhold Messner for several times. Most noticeable was their
traverse between the
Gasherbrum summits. He has set many
speed records in
alpinism, for instance an impressing 23.5 hours
ascent and ski-
descent of
Mount Everest from the
base camp in
1996. He also once climbed up and down
Matterhorn, 4478 meters,
four times in less than 24 hours.
