Frank Stella (1936-) : The first minimalist artist, paving the way for Barnett Newman and the rest. His first works were paintings of pinstripes. From there, he slowly expanded into colorful Expressionist art by way of Op-Art. His latest paintings feature odd-shaped canvases with raised surfaces to add to the texture.
