A French variation of the name Damon. The name has been recently popularized by two movies: "The Exorcist" and "The Omen". In "The Exorcist", Father Damien is a protagonist of the story. In "The Omen", Damien Thorn is the Antichrist, with a little 666 birthmark on his head.

There is also a moderately well-known historical Father Jospeh Damien who treated lepers in the Phillipines.
