Chemult, Oregon, is an unincorporated community and Census Designated Place in Central Oregon. It is on Highway 97, halfway between Klamath Falls, Oregon and Bend, Oregon, both about 70 miles away.

With only a few hundred residents, Chemult is notable mostly because it is the closest settlement to Crater Lake, as well as to Mount Thielson and a host of other outdoor locations. Chemult is also home to a train station, where the Amtrak Coast Starlight stops once a day, between Eugene and Klamath Falls. As such, despite its minuscule size, Chemult has better train service than many other major US cities, including, for example, Houston, Texas.

I have been to Chemult a number of times, but only aboard the train, and I have always regretted not getting to deboard and explore the town for a bit. Perhaps one day I will have such an opportunity.
