Or simply Newsworld as it's commonly called. The
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's all news channel. Available in
Canada on
Cable or
satellite.
Launched on
July 31, 1989. Newsworld's first year of bradcasting was experimental to say the least, sometimes retransmitting raw footage from camera crews in the field as it was being uplinked without any introduction or explanation (during the
Oka Crisis for example).
Nowdays Newsworld broadcasts such shows as
the fifth estate,
The Passionate Eye,
Rough Cuts,
Politics,
Undercurrents, and of course
The National. Newsworld also produces about 12 hours of live news programming every weekday originating from studios in
Halifax,
Toronto,
Winnipeg,
Calgary, and
Vancouver, local
CBC studios throughout Canada, and bureaus throughout the
world.
There is also a
French language version called
RDI headquartered in
Montreal and a US cable channel
Newsworld International which is a co-venture between the CBC and
USA Networks.
Newsworld is also one of the only arms of the CBC that actually turns a
profit.
