The original Arabic title of this work is Alf layla wa layla. It was first translated to a European language in the 18th century by Antoine Galland, although his and practically all subsequent translations have been very far from the original. Nevertheless, it has had a tremendous impact on European literature. In the English-speaking world commonly referred to as Arabian Nights.
