Anti-flag is a hardcore punk rock band from the streets of Pittsburgh, PA. The band has four members: Justin Sane (lead guitar & vocals), Pat Thetic (drums), Chris Head (guitar, backup vocals), and Chris No. 2 (bass). The band has released 3 albums, Die for the Government, A New Kind of Army, and Their System Doesn't Work for You. The bands lyrics center around current events, politics, social change, and the punk rock scene. The song "Die for the Government" has become a punk rock anthem and is arguably the bands best song to date. The band has just decided to release their next album, Underground Network, on Fat Wreck Chords, the label owned and started by members of the punk band NOFX. The band released previous albums on Go-Kart Records and their very own A-F Records. A-F Records is home to, obviously, Anti-flag and also The Unseen, Reagan Squad, and The Pinkerton Thugs. Anti-flag has an intensive touring schedule, they've covered the US several times in the last few years and toured with a variety of bands, including A New Found Glory, Less Than Jake, Flogging Molly, and others.

Anti-Flag isn't about anarchy. A band on AF reconds, The Unseen is all about that though. Great lyrics about throwing bricks at all the cops and the like. I think that's really dumb and take serious issue with it. But Anti-Flag is, as one of their t-shirts say "not Anti-American, Anti-Flag is anti-war." It goes on, but I can't find a quote anywhere. Their "new kind of army" is about kids who are "too smart to fight" and "too smart to kill." I think they really stand out as a smart punk rock band who isn't just all about shouting "anarchy!" At the warped tour during the summer of 2000 they were on stage talking about Ralph Nader and encouraging people to vote for him. Granted, you can't say they are extremely intelligent folk on the basis that they mentioned Nader, but I think it goes to show they actually think about what they say. They talk about corporations controlling the government and THAT being bad, not just "blah blah, government sucks dude, fuck it."
That said, go buy their cds, it's good music if you like punk.
