A
platform game released by
Sega in
1990. Well, really two loosely related games- one for the
Sega Mega Drive and another, quite different version for the
Sega Master System and
Game Gear. In both versions,
Mickey Mouse has to travel through a series of themed worlds to rescue
Minnie from the witch
Mizrabel.
In the 8-bit version (which I have most familiarity with) Mickey can despatch enemies by bouncing on them, or by throwing items dotted around the landscape at them. The game was something of a turning point for Sega, with impressive animation and a very polished design that paved the way for Sonic The Hedgehog. The game was followed by a number of sequels:
World of Illusion (starring Mickey and Donald) - MD,1992
Land of Illusion - MS/GG, 1992
Legend of Illusion - MS/GG, 1994
There were also several other games featuring Mickey Mouse as the protagonist, that although they weren't officially part of the 'Illusion' series, show some similarities, including Fantasia and Mickey Mania.
