MIT jargon: 2.70 was the
Mechanical Engineering Design Lab (as featured on
Nova). The class is now renumbered
2.007, but it is still a deisgn lab - students are taught
principles of design, and then
unleashed upon a problem, and
compete with other
students' designs.
The EECS department (Course 6) has its own variant (6.270) which requires that the developed systems (built with Legos) are fully programmed and autonomous.
