The "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE AIR" campaign began in
Boulder,
Colorado,
USA by someone known only as "Drew" to raise awareness about the
environmental hazards posed by
SUVs, or Sport Utility Vehicles.
The idea is, you buy or produce bumper stickers with the bold words "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE AIR" printed on them, then surreptitiously place these stickers on the bumpers of parked gas guzzling SUVs. The stickers generally include a URL to the campaign's website,
http://www.idontcareabouttheair.com/ and in smaller letters, the words "ASK ME WHY!"
SUV owners contend that these stickers are vandalism or otherwise deface their property, but so far Boulder's environmentally friendly police department has refused to investigate. Likewise, environmentalists point out that SUV owners generally deface the skyline by producing often over twice the amount of smog-causing emissions as more sensible vehicles.
Today the campaign has spread nationally and has been reported everywhere from San Francisco to New York City.
