Amazon Leaf Fish,
Monocirrhis polyacanthus. Found in
tropical waters.
Eats
worms like the
blood worm and
tubificid worm also
brine shrimp, and other small fish.
The leaf fish is very
flat and thin with the shape of a
leaf. It has a
jaw that looks like a leaf
stem and it has a stripe down its middle section that looks like a leaf vein -- therefore named the Leaf Fish.
It lies on its
back and floats on the top of the
river waiting for another fish to get close enough to
snatch and eat.
