The title character in a book by Edith Wharton published in 1911. Frome longs for the life he never led (
the grass is always greener complex) given that he married a woman out of a duty rather than
out of love. In the course of the book he discovers hope in the form of a cousin who visits, but that
hope is dashed when the two of them destroy their futures.
On purpose.
Ethan Frome proves a good read by a distinguished author, although I enjoyed Wharton's "The House of Mirth" far more.
Other novels by Wharton include:
The Age of Innocence
The Custom of the Country
Twilight Sleep
Hudson River Bracketed
The Gods Arrive
