A 1953
musical, directed by
Vicent Minnelli and starring
Fred Astaire and
Cyd Charisse. The plot, in short, is that of a
musical production that has been taken over by a
pretentious artistic manager who ruined it beyond recognition. The cast, followed by the
energetic Astaire,
reclaim the show and turn it into a great success.
It's not the most magical musical you'll ever see, but is still worthwhile for some truly heavenly Charisse and Astaire dance numbers, a few good routines (the triplets one is a bit of a classic, you may have seen it already as a clip on some variety show) and the fact that one of the fictional numbers takes place in part in a joint called the Dem Bones Café.
