Southside bar was located in the basement of
Southside halls, and served a ridiculously wide array of
beers, at significantly lower prices than elsewhere in
London. Moreover, the quality, and variety, of southside's
real ale's earned it multiple
CAMRA awards. This, combined with the fact that it is downstairs, made Southside bar very popular with most residents of Southside halls.
Unfortunately it is no more. Southside halls themselves are currently (June 2005) being knocked down. You'd think they'd put in a new
bar when they built the new halls, but you'd be wrong. The
planning restrictions on the new structure severely reduce the
floorspace, and something had to give. Unfortunately it was the bar. There is still the possibility the bar could relocate somewhere else on
IC's South Ken
campus, but seeing as it's allready very cramped it seems unlikely.
