A method of keeping score in a round of golf. The player who requires the fewest strokes to finish a hole wins the hole, and the player who wins the most holes wins the round. The round can be called early if one player is up by more points than there are holes remaining in the round, kind of like how the ninth inning can end early in baseball.
Match play is the oldest form of golf scoring. It remains the most popular form in the UK. Compare to stroke play.
