I'm a
high school senior, and I never imagined that present day
eighth graders could be in a separate generation. I was working at this
dance my
youth group sponsored for
middle school kids. A friend of mine was the
DJ so he played a few songs that we both enjoyed. Some
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy's "
Crazy Train", "
Bohemian Rhapsody", and "
Pinball Wizard." The kids booed each song. Eventually my friend asked if anyone liked
classic rock. The responce was a loud
NO.
Evidently, these kids who are less than five years younger than me listen to DMX, "Baby Got Back," and other similar songs, and have never heard classic rock. Don't get me wrong, that genre of music is alright, but to not enjoy rock standards is pretty bad. Bohemian Rhapsody is a great song to all of my friends, and everyone in my high school. None of the middle school kids heard it before leading me to believe there is a generation gap between present eighth and ninth graders.
