New SF book by Robert J. Sawyer. Good hard science, both quantum physics and astrophysics. CERN physicists are searching for the Higgs boson by smashing together lead nuclei, hoping to produce eleven hundred and fifty trillion volts in an atmosphere of 1015 degrees. Something goes wrong, and the entire population of the Earth is catapulted 21 years into the future, and rubber-banded back in the space of less than two minutes. The result is, of course, catastrophic.

Interesting and a really good read.
