Stockwell Day, the leader of the Canadian Alliance Party, has made referendums part of his election platform of increased democracy, and since Monday Canadians have been showing their support for the first popular movement to call a referendum under Mr. Day's platform.

It was all started by Rick Mercer of This Hour has 22 Minutes. Mr.Mercer is calling for Stockwell to change his name to Doris, and so far over 800,000 people have signed the online petition at www.22minutes.com.

Will Stockwell put his money where his mouth is and call the referendum if he wins the upcoming election? Or does his call for grassroots democracy only extend those who agree with him, such as the pro-life Christian Right movement? And how will Mr. Day feel about having his right to keep his name violated by the will of the people?
I was always for the idea that was presented on The Royal Candian Air Farce many a year ago; Let Quebec have as many referendums as they wish, but give the rest of Canada the eaqual chance to seperate from Quebec!

Trust me, after 20 or so of em' - we'll be glad to leave Quebec.
