The Eric Trump Foundation is "dedicated to raising money for children battling life-threatening diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital." The Foundation states it has donated, and pledged, nearly $28 million dollars to St. Jude - and has grown into one of the largest private charities in the country (site). I do believe that only family resources - and donated pro bono services - are expended, and there is a low ratio of administrative costs versus funds given to St. Jude.
I should never watch speeches at political conventions. I make full disclosure here that I don't want Donald Trump to be the next US president. But forgive me, when I learned about this foundation, my fingers started flying on the keyboard. I hope you read on.
This really burns my butt. St. Jude is a great pediatric treatment and research center, and a donation to them is a worthy cause. I know they have administrative costs for fundraising - it's a given for any large institution. But there's no reason to give funds through a secondary foundation. Send your funds, directly, to https://www.stjude.org/t. Jude. There is no reason to have your money spent for additional administrative costs. Why establish a foundation that duplicates the efforts of St. Jude's in-house fundraisers? I'm going to show anti-Trump bias here: Eric, use all those resources to do direct fundraising for St. Jude.
I've written this little rant in memory of my friend, the late Jim Martin, who donated countless hours - as a Washington, DC radio personality - to St. Jude. Jim used his celebrity status for the best of causes, including our local children's hospital. RIP Jim, and thank you.
