Stratocumulus clouds are a type of cumulus cloud - big and poofy, but as the strato- prefix suggests, they are spread out; also they are at a low altitude. Stratocumulus are smeared into each other, but not so much that they are a relatively flat layer - those are straight stratus clouds.
