A relational adjective is one that classifies its noun. Relational adjectives sort things into more specific categories.

For example, 'spicy food', 'surgical instrument', 'impressionist art'. In the term 'relational adjective', relational is the relational adjective.

Synonymous with classifying adjective and pertainym.
