An electronic device which transmits radio waves through a connection to an antenna. Typically operates on a carrier frequency, upon which a signal originally fed into the transmitter is superimposed.

Transistors have made modern transmitters very small, but broadcast transmitters still use large, expensive tubes to broadcast thousands of watts.
