When you examine
the history of the Internet, it all starts here, with
Johann Gutenberg. At first, the printing press was used almost exclusively to
print the Bible, but its use soon expanded to include works of
philosophy and even
pornography. The (relatively) widespread availability of
printed matter laid the foundation for mass
literacy, and arguably led to all of the
intellecutal and
philosophical advances that got us into the mess we're in today.
