A three-carbon alcohol, in which the hydroxyl group is attached to the middle carbon atom. The chemical formula for the propanols (of which there is only one other) is C3H8O.
In the US, isopropanol is sold as rubbing alcohol and used as a disinfectant. It's also called isopropyl alcohol. It is sometimes used as an additive in denatured alcohol.
