Edit these E2 titles

Here we collect requests for changes to node titles, as well as for relocation of existing content from one node to another.

Why can't I change titles myself?

The ability to change node titles and to transfer writeups is limited to site admins. This allows us to enforce e2 naming conventions. These conventions make hard linking to e2 content, and searching for content, more reliable -- we hope!

Request process

If you discover a node title with a misspelling/mistake within, please add a writeup below. Hard link the incorrect title along with your recommendation as to how it should be titled. If you have a specific new title in mind (and you usually should), please hard link the new title, too. This makes it much easier for us to process the change.

Admins can also move a writeup from one node to another. If a writeup is off topic or poorly titled, it can be transferred to the node in which it rightly belongs.

Using this format in your writeup makes it easier for site admin:

Please change the node title hard-link to hard link. Thank you.

If you think that someone might search for the writeup under the old title, you can recommend that a firm link be created in the source node, pointing to the destination. To do this, add (and firm link) or simply (firm link) in parentheses after the request:

Please change the node title source-node to destination node (and firm link). Thank you.

For transfer of content, if there are multiple writeups in the node, please specify whose writeups should move, or simply "all". If reparenting will remove all writeups from the node, suggest '(keep the nodeshell)' or '(kill the nodeshell)'. Adding a firm link always means keeping the nodeshell, so you don't need to specify this if you're recommending a firm link. See firm link for more on when to request a firm link, and when not to do so. Firm links are redirects. Please don't request that two nodes be mutually firmlinked.

If you have a question about a title, but no specific recommendation, you can send a message to a member of the SIGTITLE usergroup.

Caveats

When the overall node title is changed it may not change the title in your individual writeup. If this happens, simply click 'submit' on your writeup and the writeup's title will re-align with the new nodeshell title. Until then, your 'user search' may continue to display the old title.

E2 has no consistent caps rule for common nouns in titles (in the text of your writeup, get it right). Please don't bother asking us to uncapitalize/capitalize such nodes - see E2 FAQ: Capitalization in nodes.

Like most e2 admin activites, title moves and writeup transfers are done by volunteers. There is no SLA for this task. Please be patient.

For Best Results

When you list a title edit or reparenting request here, please be very specific. Don't make vague suggestions regarding what may or may not warrant changing or statements to the effect that node x has "issues." Speak plainly and make your requests acutely evident. If you have questions or issues regarding a change, /msg an admin and sort out the details before posting a request.

Only request title edits that you really want us to make. Say what you mean. DO NOT play games with your request. Games are for jerks! Jerks!!

Thank you for your help.

Nov:

How to make your own paper and How to bind your own book seem like unnecessarily wordy titles - content covered elsewhere? - moved into papermaking and bookbinding respectively. Cha-ching! -jack

The South Sea Bubble is "copyright uncertain," cites no author, and is unnecessarily split up into 4 parts. This got CST approved, and it's split up because it is freakin' long. -m

Most of the chapters of A Little Princess don't mention the book's title or author.

Dec:

NSA: some pseudo set theory footnote 1 - necessary to be set apart from parent node? according to the author, yes. "2007-10-28@7:11 AM ariels says Well, I regard it as a footnote. It's almost entirely unrelated to NSA: some pseudo set theory, which stands perfectly well without it. I prefer to put footnotes separately (rather than as ugly numbered notes at the end) because that preserves more of the original flavour of footnotes. " --LA

Jan:

We have old content at gender neutral pronoun and new content at gender-neutral pronoun. The correct form is WITH the hyphen, so content needs to be moved & we need a firmlink. Somebody needs to check to see if there's duplicate content too, though uh not me. Brawl sez: By the time I got to this one was empty. Consolidated at g-n p and softlocked the other.

Acts of Thomas is unlinked and unnecessarily broken into parts(Brawl sez: Actually the split is necessary, any more text per writeup would get clipped (in an ekw edit box, anyway).)
ditto Cuba vs. US Govt. not to mention friggin impossible to read.

0\VN is certainly covered elsewhere but what's the best variant on the title?

(ex-)ed note notwithstanding, Cold War Document and Speech Meta Node ought to be "metanode," one word, as that's been the standard for years. Changing this will require changing a bunch of related links - anyone up for it?

Dumpster diving Dumpster diving for fun and profit the art of urban scavenging dumpster diving food 101 dumpster diving for computers - consolidation?

The Priest Joke and You're not a monk are variations on the same shaggy dog story.

every good boy does fine, every good boy deserves fruit, and every good boy deserves favour all refer to the same mnemonic. "favour" also has other information so that might be the title to keep.

OBAFGKM and oh be a fine girl kiss me are the same. They are very similar to the extended version, OBAFGKMRNS and oh be a fine girl kiss me right now sweetheart. OBAFGKMNS appears to be an incorrect variation on this, missing the "R".

beaver tails should really be singular.

elephant ears should really be singular.

The most Disappointing Joke Ever contains a version of The "Fuck you, clown!" story.

Mein Kampf appears to be an aborted attempt by user Lila to put the full text of the book on E2. It gets no farther than Mein Kampf - Introduction and Preface although an index is there for all the chapters. done -ap

HELLO my name is: and Hello, my name is appear to be redundant titles done -ap

Don Quixote contains some chapters written in the format Don Quixote - Book 1 Chapter 1 and others in the format Don Quixote Chapter VI. The English version noded under the "everyone" account appears to only contain the roman numeral version in its links regardless of the actual format of the chapter titles. "SwapNodesQuijote" (unfinished, still in progress?) used whichever title was pre-existing and does not contain internal links to the previous and next chapters. Taken to Swap. There's also a copyright question so Content_Salvage will be involved before we change them -ap

We appear to have a number of alternate spelling writeups such as 1 Machabees and 1 Maccabees, These are just alternate spellings of the same word translated from Hebrew. Done - DEB

We have several node titles with the spelling schrodinger and schrödinger. I think we should pick one or the other and standardize. done -ap

Hey, that drinking game where you drink a shot of beer every minute is noded under at least five titles that I can find, The Hundred Club, power hour, Century Club, Centurion, and The Hour of Power (and there is a nodeshell for 100 club). Wikipedia seems to prefer "Power Hour" as the title.

Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution law should probably go under Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics, although I've half a mind to write up all three statistics (Maxwell-Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac, and Bose-Einstein) in the near future. I've already firm-linked "Boltzmann statistics" to "Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics".

I think but cannot verify that Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution law was the name for the theory when M & B first discovered it, before it was realized that it only applied to indistinguishable particles (like molecules in a gas).

Statements that would be shocking to people living in 1975: opening writeup is cut and pasted.
Girlfriend: first writeup is e-Mail forward that was funny about ten years ago. I am not sure on the status of these type of things.
New Girlfriend: Doesn't really seem to have too much actual content.
How do you know a girl wants to smooch?: GTKY, although everything here also has a high rep...and this certainly brings back history for me!
The unavoidable power of sex: This is such a general mishmash of "radical ideas" that even by e2s subjective standards, seems to not have any supported content.
Does this dress make me look fat?: More GTKY relationship stuff
What Do You Care What Other People Think?--is just a repeat of the blurb on the back of a book.
Fuck what other people think-I think at the least, the last writeup needs to go
We should all like sex and drugs-I know lots of this stuff still has high reps, but that is just because no one has looked at it in eight years.
When having sex in Germany-if I am misunderstanding the purpose of this "edit these e2 titles", to be a pointing out of everything that is not up to current e2 standards, I apologize.
Salon.com-I actually made this nodeshell, it should be under salon
primary election and primary should perhaps be sorted out.
The day porn moved from film to video: this is a one liner
The Motorcycle Song: straight transcription, so sadly. I have a writeup under Listen to what the flower people say, which should be, I believe, (Listen to the) Flower People.

419 fraud, Nigerian mail scams and advance fee fraud all seem to be the same thing. I've always thought of them as Nigerian mail scams, which also happens to be the node with the most content right now (though Nigerian scam gets more Google hits than anything, I think) but on the other hand that seems vaguely unfair to Nigeria, and of course the same scams sometimes come from other places. So I'm not sure what to do really. Anyone?
TenMinJoe says I agree with you that there are unpleasant overtones to labelling the scam "Nigerian", and "419" is so horribly undescriptive. I think "advance fee fraud" is the least worst.
...yeah, probably right. I've asked Junkill if he has any objection to this, seeing as he's got the most substantial writeup here on the subject, and is the only one of the authors who's logged in since 2006.

Random guy from SIGTITLE sez Advance-fee fraud and node_forwards. -ap
